What is known

The stress response increases heart and breathing rates. Relaxation responses involve a slower heart rate and lower blood pressure. NCCIH distinguishes these general physiological observations from evidence for particular practices in specific health conditions, which can remain limited.

Limits

ESTABLISHED refers to the basic response physiology, not to proven effectiveness of every method. Relaxation techniques do not replace necessary medical care.
